The 6-Bed Rotation Garden

As part of the Sustainable Backyard project at SAGE a 6-bed rotation system is being trialled. This is a well known rotational system that aims to maximise food production while minimising fertiliser inputs and rotating crops to prevent the build up of soil pathogens.

The cultivated soil combined with the previous green manure crop of vetch and lupins was shovelled from the paths onto the beds.

Humus from the windrowed vegetation left over from clearing the site was placed on the beds, together with dolomite and meat and bone meal from the local abattoirs.
