learn propogation of perennial and annual vegetables and herbs
Sunday, 28 October 2018 | 12.00pm – 3.00pm
at Phil’s property near Moruya (details supplied upon registration for the workshop)
This course covers the propagation of perennial and annual vegetables and herbs. You’ll get an idea of what to plant and when in this area, as well as how to tackle problems if they occur.
You will learn how to sow seeds, take cuttings, practice plant division and layering. It will be an informal, hands-on session with questions answered as they arise throughout the day.
Phil will also talk about building and maintaining soil fertility through crop rotation, compost making and using chickens to build soil fertility (turning waste organic matter back into a valuable resource).
Ideas on potting mixes will also be covered, including what to use in different circumstances and how to make your own mix.
- Sow seeds
- Take cuttings
- Plant division
- Making seed raising mix for different conditions
- What to grow and when for this area
- When to pot on or plant out
- Build and maintain soil fertility
About your Presenter
After 25 years of raising vegetable and herb seedlings on the south coast, Phil Timms has accumulated detailed knowledge and will have loads of useful tips to pass on. A tour of the nursery and growing beds will show how the small nursery has evolved over time. Selling seedlings and produce to two weekly markets means a high turnover in plants. Phil has developed many efficiencies in production as a result.
