from SCPA-South East Producers
The “Farms with a Future” project, managed by SCPA-South East Producers, has been holding Ground Work Days across the region and is holding one at the garden of 2015/2016 SAGE Market Gardener Intern Sasha Ermichina in Turlinjah later this month.
WHEN: 9am – 4pm Monday 26 March
WHERE: Leaf and Petal, Turlinjah
COST: $20 per person, fully catered
The project aims to promote sustainable farming practices and to provide grants to property owners who have plans to improve the environmental sustainability of their own property.
There will be a Ground Work Day at Leaf & Petal, the property owned and operated by Sasha Ermichina and her partner Bret House at Turlinjah on Monday 26 March. By attending you could win one of the six $1000 grants that will be available.
Leaf & Petal is primarily a market garden producing fresh vegetables, herbs, flowers and herbal teas to sell at farmers markets, with plans to sell to cafés, local grocers and through a box scheme.
Being on top of a hill, the garden is experiencing soil run off, leaving a very rocky soil behind, and water retention on the hill is also a challenge.
As well as learning about this operation, participants in the Ground Work Day will learn about:
- the soil production and improvements methods being used, and
- the water management consultation recently provided by the RIA Group (based in Cobargo) and the implementation of their recommendations
