Veggies for All 2018 growing more home gardeners

The 2018 SAGE Veggies for All program is hitting some pretty impressive targets.

Made possible by a $17,990 grant from the IMB Community Foundation, so far we have held six workshops across the Eurobodalla with nearly 150 attendees. These workshops, presented by Kyle Levier, covered the basics of how to grow veggies successfully at home. Topics covered included soil preparation, watering, rotation, succession plantings, using the presence of pests and fungal diseases as indicators of soil and plant health instead reaching for the sprays.

Workshops have been held at the Batemans Bay Men’s Shed, the Narooma Men’s Shed, the Tuross Head Community Garden and the SAGE Garden.

Over 70 Centrelink concession card holders who have completed the workshop have requested assistance from SAGE with setting up a raised garden bed at their home, complete with soil, compost, mulch and seedlings, completely free and ready to grow. So far, 18 veggie beds have been installed at Tuross Head alone, with a lot of help from the Tuross Head Men’s Shed and Tuross Head Community Garden.

The SAGE team of volunteers will soon start installing garden beds in Moruya, Tomakin and Surf Beach. We always need more volunteers to help with this work, so if you can spare a morning please contact Kathryn Maxwell on 0467 558 645 or email veggiesforall@sageproject.org.au.

We have just announced an additional workshop to be held on 17 November at the Tuross Head Men’s Shed. Contact Kathryn or book online now.
